Cloud Services Launcher

Overview
-
My Role: UX Architect
-
The Problem: As the company's portfolio of cloud services expanded, users needed an easy way to access the services they wanted to use and a quick way to switch services based on the use case and task at hand. The challenge was to provide users with immediate, personalized access to their essential tools, based on user permissions and licenses, while simultaneously creating an effective and non-intrusive pathway for them to discover new, trial, and other valuable services across the platform.
-
The Solution: To address these challenges, I led the design of a universal service launcher. This component served as a single, persistent entry point to all of the company's cloud services. It was designed not only to facilitate seamless navigation but also to act as a promotional platform, intelligently surfacing new services and allowing users to initiate trials directly. It also allows users to set their default service that launches automatically upon login.
Scope and Goals
Strategic Goals: Our primary objective was to create a unified and streamlined navigation experience across the entire cloud ecosystem. We aimed to:
-
Provide a single, consistent entry point to all cloud services.
-
Simplify navigation and switching between different services to support cross-product workflows.
-
Create a scalable and flexible design that could accommodate future platform growth, various licensing models, and the promotion of service trials.
-
Increase user awareness and adoption of new or underutilized services through targeted promotions.
-
Create a unified and branded experience that reinforces the company's identity at a key interaction point.
My Core Responsibilities:
-
Requirements Analysis & Information Architecture: I led the analysis of user and business needs to define the launcher's overall structure, content, and information hierarchy.
-
Interaction & Visual Design Guidance: I defined the core interaction model for accessing and managing services and guided the visual design work to ensure a clean, intuitive, and on-brand experience.
-
Cross-Functional Coordination: I was the central point of contact for coordinating with multiple product teams to ensure seamless integration of their services. I also worked closely with corporate branding to align on the visual identity.
Process
Discovery & Conceptualization:
-
Analyzed competitor app launchers to identify best practices.
-
Created initial Information Architecture models and user flows.
Design & Iteration:
-
Developed low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout and interaction patterns.
-
A key consideration was creating a design that could scale over time as more services were added to the platform.
-
Worked with visual design to apply the brand identity and create high-fidelity mockups.
Collaboration & Refinement:
-
Worked with multiple stakeholders and presented designs to product leadership for buy-in.
-
Collaborated with engineering to create design specifications and shepherd implementation.
