Overview

My Role: UX Manager (Project Oversight, Review & Consulting)
The Problem: The MITRE ATT&CK framework is a critical tool for cybersecurity professionals, but our existing Coverage view lacked the advanced capabilities needed by SOC Analysts and Detection Engineers. Users found it challenging to efficiently filter the complex data and the visual design was outdated, hindering their ability to quickly identify and address gaps in their security coverage.
The Solution: This project focused on a significant overhaul of the MITRE ATT&CK Coverage view. Key improvements included introducing enhanced filtering capabilities, a complete visual design upgrade with new light and dark themes, and providing users with more control over visual settings. This transformed the view into a more powerful, intuitive, and modern tool for analyzing and improving an organization's security posture.

Scope and Goals

Strategic Goals: Our primary objective was to empower security professionals to analyze and improve their threat coverage more effectively. We aimed to:

Improve the efficiency of identifying security coverage gaps with advanced filtering.
Enhance the visual clarity and usability of the coverage data through a modern redesign.
Provide a more accessible and personalized user experience with the introduction of light and dark themes.
Empower SOC Analysts and Detection Engineers to strengthen their organization's security posture more effectively.

My Core Responsibilities:

Project Oversight: I was responsible for the overall project oversight from a design perspective. I ensured the project, which was conducted by one of my team members, aligned with our product's strategic goals and design standards.
Mentorship & Consulting: I provided regular guidance to the designer, consulting on the use of common patterns, ensuring standardization, and acting as a sounding board for key design decisions.
Design Review: I reviewed all major design milestones, from initial concepts to final visual designs, to ensure the solution was high-quality, usable, and met the project's objectives.
