The Challenge
Log search is a cornerstone of the Sumo Logic platform, but it relies on a powerful and complex proprietary query language. This creates a steep learning curve that acts as a significant barrier for novice or infrequent users, preventing them from effectively investigating and troubleshooting issues without extensive training.
The Solution
To address this, we developed the Sumo Logic Copilot, an AI-powered feature that allows users to query the system using natural language. Users can simply type their question as a prompt, and Copilot translates it into the correct query syntax, running it and presenting the results as either raw logs or appropriate visualizations. Copilot also provides intelligent recommendations for follow-up queries, guiding users through their investigation.
Scope and Goals
Our primary objective was to democratize data analysis on our platform. We aimed to:

Eliminate the barrier of the proprietary query language for new and infrequent users.

Drastically reduce the time it takes for all users to get answers from their log data.

Evolve the user experience from a simple query tool to an intelligent, guided investigation partner.
